Devonport Jazz is an annual music festival in the City of Devonport on Tasmania's Northwest coast.Featuring artists from interstate as well as Tasmania's leading jazz musicians, Devonport Jazz is a celebration of all jazz genres - both old and new. Devonport Jazz breaks the mould by incorporating elements of education, food, visual art, dance and film into the traditional jazz festival program. Take in a concert at the Devonport Entertainment & Convention Centre, or a show over breakfast, lunch or dinner at a range of cosy venues. QantasLink Jazz Flight
In partnership with the Devonport Chamber of Commerce and Industry, QantasLink will be offering a special Jazz flight as part of the weekend. The flight will be departing Melbourne at around midday on Friday 24 July and will be returning on Sunday 26 July. The flight to Devonport will feature live music by festival headliners The Syncopators and Dutch Tilders.
Move 'n' Groove
Dance the night away at Reece High School to the exciting sounds of special guests The Syncopators. This group has just won the "Classic Jazz Album of the Year" award at the 2009 Bell Awards. Also performing will be Hobart sensations Boosted Roosters. With drinks and light snacks available plus a huge dance floor, this is the perfect opportunity to kick up your heels and have a great night out with friends!
Jazz Dine 'n' Dance
Featuring the sophisticated style of Kaye Payne and A Touch of Class, this year's Jazz Dine 'n' Dance lavish dinner will be a very special occasion. Hosted by the Devonport Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Jazz Dine 'n' Dance will be a highlight of the festival. The smooth Jazz, fine wines and a gourmet menu will satisfy the most discerning lover of food and music.
Devonport Jazz Roadshow
This year we are taking Devonport Jazz to the region with several concerts in Latrobe, Kentish and Shearwater. Enjoy a taste of what Devonport Jazz has to offer in local wineries, in a heritage hotel or at a big band concert in the heart of Latrobe.
Big Band Extravaganza
With four hours of Big Bands playing the classic hits of the Great American Songbook, this concert will delight audiences of all ages. Bring a picnic, sit back and enjoy the music of Force 10 (part of the highly renowned Air Force Band) plus regional big bands in a spectacular showcase of swinging standards. A new addition to Devonport Jazz, the Big Band Extravaganza will have your toes tapping.
7AD Jazz Karaoke
Great prizes to be won plus a high profile performance opportunity for the winners during the Jazz Weekend. Registrations and backing music are available from the offices of Heart 900 7AD at 2 Hillcrest Road, Devonport. When registering for the 7AD Karaoke Competition ($5) you will receive a booklet with the lyrics and some handy tips + either a backing cd or a disc for use with Windows Media on your PC. Registrations close at 5pm, Monday 20 July.
